Wakeful Stakes Second for Beluga Blue

Melbourne, October 31 - A last start stakes-winner in Adelaide, talented Lookin at Lucky (USA) filly Beluga Blue gave notice of better things to come when running a bold second in the Group II VRC Wakeful Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Prepared by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Beluga Blue powered home along the inside to finish second to Godolphin runner Ambience in the 2000 metre feature.

She has the overall record of two wins and three placings from eight starts and has already won nearly $150,000 in prizemoney.

Consigned for sale by Mill Park at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Beluga Blue made $100,000 to the bid of Leon Macdonald and runs for a syndicate of owners that includes her breeder Harry Perks.

A half-sister to talented winner Burgundy Blast, she is the second foal of Choice of Colours, a metro winning Redoute’s Choice mare from the family of Group winners Excited Angel, Typhoon and more recently Text’n Hurley and Delago’s Secret.

Choice of Colours has colts to follow by New Approach (IRE) and Rebel Raider and was covered last spring by Bernardini (USA).
