Adelaide, May 2 - Classy four year-old Gamblin’ Guru showed his class at Morphettville on Saturday when carrying 59 kg to victory as favourite.
A $70,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from the draft of Mill Park, Gamblin’ Guru won several stakes races last year and was fourth in the Group I SAJC Australian Derby.
Prepared by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Gamblin’ Guru indicated he was back to his best when taking the open handicap over 2000 metres by a long neck.
A son of English Derby winner New Approach (IRE), Gamblin’ Guru has won six races and placed eight times from 25 starts earning over $411,000 in prizemoney.
Bred by the Guru Breeding Syndicate, Gamblin’ Guru is the second foal and second winner from unraced Glory Guru, a half-sister by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) to triple Group I winner and Champion Australian 3YO Gold Guru and Group II winner Gallant Guru.
Glory Guru has a filly foal by Medaglia D’Oro (USA) and was covered by Epsom Derby hero Camelot (IRE) last year.
