In arguably career best form, talented mare Zerprise Journey took out her second race from her last three starts, winning over 2018m at Morphettville on January 9.
Finishing second on Boxing Day off the back of victory the start prior, the four-year-old Good Journey mare started well in the market and although having to undergo a veterinary examination at the gates before being passed fit to start, she proved too classy.
Settling forward in the 10-horse field after jumping from one of the widest barrier, jockey Josh Cartwright took the mare forward where she found the rail and travelled comfortably in the box seat.
Moving forward around the heels of the race leader Not A Surprise as he began to weaken on the point of the home turn, Zerprise Journey had to set out after Maryore who had come wide to take the lead.
As Zerprise Journey got the better of Maryore, she then needed to hold off the late charge of Tony McEvoy’s Sir Leliani who had also come from the tail of the field to challenge.
Recording her sixth and taking her earnings just shy of $140,000, Zerprise Journey was raised at Mill Park Stud for breeder and part-owner Mr John McAlister.
Out of the Zerpour mare Zerprisal whose current two-year-old is a gelding by Helmet, she also has a Foxwedge yearling colt, and foaled a filly by Vinery Stud’s Mossman this season.
