We've Arrived.

After a journey of over 2000km from Mill Park Stud to the Gold Coast sale complex of the Magic Millions the six-strong yearling draft have already been well received in early inspections ahead of Wednesday opening session of the 2016 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

“We have a very good record selling at the Gold Coast with dual Group 1 winner Rebel Raider, Group 1 Epsom Handicap winner Captain Sonador as well as the Group 3-winning Group 1 placed Angel Of Mercy all from our drafts in recent years,” enthused General Manager Chris Watson.

Having inspected the draft at the farm, highly respected bloodstock agent and South Australia’s Magic Millions Consultant Adrian Hancock, stated that while all South Australian vendors have done an outstanding job in preparing their drafts for the sale, he commented that, “Mill Park’s record of Group winning Graduates bred and sold off the farm speaks for itself.”

“Their attention to detail is second to none and the draft they are taking to QLD on behalf of the Watson Family and their Clients is jam packed with quality and variety for all price ranges.”

The first of the Mill Park draft to go through the ring is Lot 118: Helmet x Classic Status colt who received a recent pedigree update when half-brother Reldas finished a narrow second in the Listed Christmas Day Stakes at Flemington.

From the second crop of Darley’s triple Group 1 winning son of Exceed And Excel, the chestnut colt is out of the Marscay mare Classic Status, herself a half-sister to the Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner Serious Speed and to the dam of multiple Group 2 winner Majestic Speed.

The dam of three winners highlighted by the Listed winner Victory Chant and the exciting sprinter Reldas, the colt is bred on a Danehill line x Marscay cross similar to Group 1 winners Elvstroem, Catbird, Camarena and Mr Murphy.

“This family has been good to us over the years,” said Watson. “This colt is pretty typical of the sire from others I’ve seen. He is heavily muscled, a lovely size with plenty of strength and a good length of barrel. Peter Moody has the two year-old half-sister by Magic Albert.”

A handful of lots later will see Lot 139: Street Cry x Dances On Waves colt head to the ring.

Having inspected the colt at the farm, Magic Millions Bloodstock Consultant and Auctioneer Clint Donovan described him as having “the pedigree and physique of a stallion and has been a target horse for this sale since day one, he is a real stand out.”

From the final crop of Darley’s Street Cry, the colt is the third foal of the well-related Group 2-winning Anabaa mare Dances On Waves, herself a half-sister to the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Preferment and Group 3 winner Rezoned.

The Redoute’s Choice half-brother was one of the leading lots in the 2015 draft, selling to David Raphael’s Stallion Racing and Jadeskye Racing for $575,000, with the Street Cry colt also expected to sell very well.

“Probably the leading light of our draft, this colt simply oozes quality. He is an attractive colt with an enormous athletic free-flowing walk. We are quite excited about him, especially after the deeds of Winx this spring,” said Watson.

One of three fillies in the draft, Lot 189: Snitzel x Elusive Wonder will round out the yearlings set to sell on day one of the sale.

The filly is the fourth foal from the stakes placed Elusive Quality mare Elusive Wonder, a half-sister to the Listed winner Tatra.

By Snitzel, the full-sister to this filly was one of two yearlings purchased from the draft in 2015 at the sale by Malua Bloodstock and Bahen Bloodstock, knocked down for $175,000.

“Our draft this year is very even in quality and this filly fits in nicely. She has more scope than expected from a Snitzel, yet also has the huge strength that people look for. She has good bone and is very correct. We have retained the three year-old More Than Ready filly from Elusive Wonder, and she (Cocoa Doll) won for us on debut.”

Day two of the sale kicks off in grand style for the draft with Lot 257: All Too Hard x Furline filly to go through the ring.

“This filly is the epitome of a Magic Millions style of horse – great size, strength, all power and muscle. She is well balanced and we have retained the mare’s first foal, the older half-sister to this filly, who looks like an autumn two year-old at this early stage,” stated Watson.

From the first crop of Champion 3YO colt All Too Hard, a four-time Group 1 winning Casino Prince half-brother to World Champion Black Caviar, this filly is the second foal of the Listed placed Furline, herself a half-sister to the Listed winner Umaline.

From the family of the Group 1 Epsom Handicap winner Captain Sonador, this filly is out of a Tale of The Cat mare, just like Group 1 winners It’s Tricky, Dortmund, Amazing Maria, Smashing Glory and Declassify.

The final colt of the draft, Lot 444: Dalakhani x Miss With Attitude, while not your typical get up and run two-year-old type, he is out of the juvenile winning Galileo mare and will have plenty of admirers.

From the first Australian-bred crop of Group 1 Arc de Triomphe winner Dalakhani, already the sire of eight Group 1 winners including Reliable Man, Moonstone and Conduit, this colt is the first foal of Miss With Attitude, a multiple stakes placed half-sister to Oui Si Attitude.

“There are very few Galileo mares that can win at two, and Miss With Attitude had a lot of brilliance. We thought she could have emerged as a strong middle distance horse later in her career if she hadn’t been injured”

“This is her first foal, and we have bred the family back to the European influences in the pedigree. He is a classic colt that deserves a big audience. He has a huge shoulder and girth, yet is a nicely balanced athletic colt.”

The final yearling of the draft, Lot 683: Sepoy x Tobouggie Woogie filly will go through the Saturday night session after the Magic Millions race day and like all of the draft, will have plenty of admirers.

“She is a leggy style of Sepoy with lovely strength and scope. She has a good strong forearm and gaskin.”

From the second Australian crop of Darley’s multiple Group 1-winning World Champion Sprinter Sepoy, this colt is the third foal of the seven-time-winning mare Tobouggie Woogie, a half-sister to multiple Group 2 winner Majestic Music.

All in all, Mill Park Stud’s 2016 Magic Millions yearling sale draft has something to offer all buyers and with a combination of both proven sires as well as yearlings by first and second season sires, the draft is sure to please.

“We have a lot to look forward to in coming years with some lovely horses selling off the farm and we are really looking forward to not only our Magic Millions draft, but all of our 2016 yearling drafts selling over the coming months.”
