Currently experience a purple patch of form on the track, talented four-year-old Good Journey mare Zerprise Journey added her third victory from her last four starts to her already impressive resume.
Away from the track for about three weeks, Zerprise Journey headed to what is becoming her favourite track, to contest Morphettville’s Ubet Adelaide Cup 14/3 (Benchmark 82) over 2038m.
A short neck winner the start prior when racing over 2018m at the same track, the Mick Huxtable-trained mare jumped away from the third outside barrier and jockey Ryan Hurdle allowed the mare to settle where she was comfortable - in this case it was in fourth position off the outside of race favourite Mr Pago.
Not long after finding her position, Prince Albert made a mid-race move to come around the mare and she went back to sixth on the rail.
Just as quickly as Prince Albert made his move, he began to weaken and drop back through the field and in turn Zerprise Journey started to find herself with a wall of horses in front of her and not a lot of room to make a run.
Needing an opening, the field began to bunch up before the turn and a gap appeared right in the middle of the leaders and Zerprise Journey charged through, where she then proceeded to head back towards the inside rail.
Recording a narrow short head victory, Zerprise Journey took her overall record to seven wins and three placings from 19 starts and just shy of $170,000 in earnings for her happy connections.
