Morphettville Double for Mill Park Graduates

Back in the winner’s circle again at Morphettville on Saturday was evergreen six year-old son Daytona Grey, a $65,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from the Mill Park draft.

The Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas trained gelding won the Listed SAJC Manihi Stakes back in April and has been consistent since then without winning.

He burst back to top form with a tenacious half-head win in the 1050 metre sprint carrying 59 kg to victory.

He has now won 12 races and more than $528,000 in prizemoney and is the best of six winners from good producer Southern Rose.

Southern Rose has a weanling filly by Rebel Raider and was covered last spring by Zoffany (IRE).

Saluting in the very next race was three year-old Astronomer Royal (USA) filly Correct Call, a homebred for Harry Perks prepared by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas.

She scored over 1200 metres by a length and three-quarters and has now won three of seven starts.

Correct Call is one of three winners from three foals to race from Group II winning Rory’s Jester mare Buckle My Shoe.

Mill Park passed in a Rebel Raider colt from Buckle My Shoe at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale this year and the mare is in foal to Helmet.
