Royal Rumble Strikes Top Form

Classy New Approach (IRE) four year-old Royal Rumble was a stakes-winner last season at three and showed he was back to his best with a stylish win at Morphettville on Saturday.

Trained by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Royal Rumble was ready to fire at his third run back from a spell and forged clear as favourite to win the 1600 metre open event as favourite.

He took his overall record to five wins and nine placings from 24 starts with earnings just shy of $330,000.

Bred by Harry Perks and retained to race with partners, Royal Rumble was raised at Mill Park and is one of three winners from Queen’s Kiss, a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Loving Cup.

Queen’s Kiss produced a colt by Rebel Raider last spring and was then covered by Kermadec.
