a heavily laden blAck type family
From the second crop of Darley’s Group 1-winning son of New Approach in Dawn Approach, the bay colt comes from the esteemed ‘Discreet’ family, a heavily laden black type family with numerous stakes performers locally and internationally.
This colt is out of the four-time-winning Listed winner Very Discreet, an Exceed And Excel daughter of the Group 3 winner She’s Discreet. The dam of three foals to race, all winners, the most recent runner is the South African-based Naafer, a son of Lonhro who resumed for his current campaign with victory over Group 1 winners Legal Eagle, South Africa’s dual Horse of the Year, and Edict of Nantes, a multiple Group 1 winner who has just been sold for a large sum of money to continue his career in Hong Kong.
The unraced two-year-old from the mare has been named Approach Dawn, and is a full-brother to this colt, selling at the Inglis Easter yearling sale for $360,000, the top price for a yearling by his sire in Australia to Darren Weir and John Foote. In fact, Mill Park have sold the two highest-priced yearlings by Dawn Approach in Australia, topping both the Magic Millions and Inglis Easter Yearling Sales with the pair of colts.
From his first Australian crop of runners, Dawn Approach has been represented by just four to date, with the unbeaten Gongs going two for two, while fellow Godolphin runner Condemned is also unbeaten.
Exceed And Excel is the broodmare sire of 37 stakes horse, three at Group 1 level including this season’s Group 1 Flight Stakes winner Alizee and the Group 1 Golden Rose winner Astern.
